starting tonight (Friday 1/31) thru tomorrow night. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for northeastern Illinois, including Lake County, from 9:00 p.m. Friday night through 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening. Light snow is expected to develop this afternoon south of Lake County, and spread northward through the evening. Snow accumulation of 4-8 inches is likely across Lake County by Saturday evening, though subtle changes in the track of the storm could cause lower or higher snow amounts. Current forecasts suggest that the highest snow totals will be south of Lake County. Snowfall rates of up to two inches per hour are possible during the morning on Saturday, which would likely lead to hazardous road conditions. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel on Saturday, and to allow extra time for any travel that is necessary.

Additionally, people should pay attention to the evolving weather forecasts for next week. Another storm system could bring more snow to our area on Tuesday and Wednesday, and another round of extremely cold temperatures is expected in the later part of next week.
